MINI CLASSES FOR AUGUST BREAK!!
Join us for some ‘teaser’ classes featuring new classes we will be offering this Fall and get a taste of what is to come! Mini Classes open to all levels. Punch Cards can apply to class costs.

August 5–6-7pm FLUTTER FAN CLASS $10
Beautiful and flashy, Flutter Fans are fun to dance with. Class will cover basic hold and short dance. Fans will be available for purchase for class at $40 each

August 7–7-9pm “HAFLA IN THE HOUSE” Free
The “Half-La” is back by popular demand to show case the dances from “Dances to a Different Drum” and the Short Courses. There will be a rehearsal on August 6 from 6-8pm for any dancers who want to repeat performances from the show.

August 10–6-8pm HOW TO SEW $20
Ok, so what is a running stitch? Do you use a zig-zag or straight stitch? Got a sewing machine that has not seen the light of day? This class is for you. It will cover basic, very basic, machine and hand sewing techniques so when you need your next costume, you can sew it! Please contact Janna for your spot in this class. Space is limited. Bring your sewing machine it you have one.

August 11-6-7pm DANCE TECHNIQUE $10
Many intermediate and Advanced dances use basic Ballet terms and technique as a base for the belly dance combinations. Learn by doing plie`s, passe, and more. Wear jazz pants and ballet slippers to class if you have them.

August 12–6-8pm HULA CLASS $20
Hula is back at Janna’s!! Join us for a taste of the islands with certified Hula Instructor Lehua. Class will cover basic steps and a short choreography.

August 13–7-8pm TAP DANCE $10
So much fun we had to start offering Tap! Class will cover basic steps and combos. Don’t have tap shoes? No problem, wear smooth bottom shoes or ‘keds’ to class.

in a One Day Workshop and Show
“Belly Dance Engineering: Styles, Variations and Combinations”
Andrea will introduce movements that everyone thinks they know – hip circles in particular, and step-touch variations, and up and down accents including different ways of doing them that arise from what is actually done “over there,” with variations by belly dance greats like Samia Gamal, Fifi Abdo, Tulay Karaca, and Amani of Lebanon – giving an overview of the ways a movement can be used for different effects and in different styles. You may think you can do one or two of “that” but there are dozens more of “that” you could be doing!
Join us for a day of experiencing and engineering stylistic variations, and making combinations that can be used in the many different styles of belly dance. Class will include technique and a short choreography.

TO THE STUDIO:
From West I-64: take J Clyde exit A From I-64 East: take J Clyde exit B. Take a right at the third light onto Thimble Shoals. Its the second drive way on the right. The studio is up stairs in the back of the building. TO THE THEATER: From either East or West I-64, take the Camp Peary exit (238A). West bound I-64: Turn left at the stop sign at the end of the ramp on to 143 West. East Bound I-64: Bear to the right directly onto route 143 West. All: Turn right onto Route 132 at the second stop light. At the second stop light turn right onto Lafayette. Turn left on to Boundary Street and park in new parking structure on your left. The theater is located inside of the Williamsburg Library, which is the building located at the corner of Boundary and Armistead

The Halfa DVD’s are finally here! If you have prepaid or pre ordered a copy you can pick it up during your normal class time. If your not currently in class, drop by the Studio during class hours to get your copy! The cost for the DVD is $15.

For those of you who have enjoyed our 18th Century Country Dance Classes, here is a chance to dance your legs off! Join the local Contra Dance groups for their–Annual Dancers’ Picnic!
Saturday, July 18th
3pm until no one’s dancing any more!
Dancing will take place on the porch and the lawn.
Some Contra dances, but mostly English Country Dances will be the fare for the day.
Bring a dish to share!
